While the farm itself currently is not in production, the annual Avrom Farm Party returns this August with its three-day food and music festival located near Green Lake.
The festival, which is set for Friday, Aug. 9 to Sunday, Aug. 11, came into existence in 2018 with the idea of celebrating regenerative agriculture and sharing great music with loved ones and strangers. It takes place at Avrom Farm, W0908 Scott Hill Road, Ripon. Pets, weapons and carry-ins are not allowed.
“I think that we’ve grown a really tight community over the last couple of years,” Avrom Farm Party Co-Producer Georgia Greenberg said. “I’m just really proud of the community that we have, [with] guests and crew that come back year after year.”
More than a dozen performers will take the stage throughout the span of the festival, with Hannah Frances headlining Friday and the rock band Dehd headlining Saturday. Greenberg noted that a lot of the performers are from Chicago as that’s where the event producers are based.
“My favorite band is coming; they’re called ‘Porch Music,’” she said. “They’re friends of mine from college … and I’ve been hoping to one day get them up at the farm.”
Along with music, other activities will be featured at the festival. Among them is a play by the Young Krones Theater. An art fair produced by Lot’sa also will be offered, along with vendors and workshops.
“The other star of the show, to me at least, is the five meals that we cook on the farm in our little kitchen tent and produce for all of our festival guests,” Greenberg said. “Traditionally, we do a Saturday night hog roast, and we serve breakfast twice. Every meal has a vegetarian entree as well.”
Beer and non-alcoholic drinks will be sold at the event as well.
Greenberg noted more than 300 people attended the festival last year. She shared how the party started out with just a couple of bands performing on a Friday night to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the farm, but that the event has expanded since.
“The goal is to at some point be able to utilize the event for nonprofit purposes,” Greenberg said. “We’re hoping to join up with organizations that already exist in Chicago.”
The festival features two campsites for attendees to stay at over the course of the event, with one being focused on families and quieter camping experiences. Festival tickets include parking and campsite access.
Campsites will have access to drinking water, first aid, handwashing stations and portable restrooms.
Tickets for the Avrom Farm Party range from either single day or for the entire weekend. Meal bundles also may be pre-purchased before the event for attendees to save money.
